The History of Proven Sires Services

Proven Sires Services started in 1995 in the state of Virginia, utilizing the Department of Corrections (DOC) cattle operations as cooperative herds to test the genetically superior, but unproven Angus bulls. Over the years, the information and data collected was and still is ahead of its time. However, technology is closing in the gap rather quickly.

The problem with technology in measuring this carcass information is not enough accuracy in the measurements. Too many variables can affect the outcome of the end product. It seems to be a shortcut to proven success, by saving time, money, and hard work. Proven Sires feels that new technology can be an excellent tool, just not as accurate if unproven. This is the reason why Proven Sires is so successful and highly looked upon by commercial and seedstock producers alike for dependable, accurate, proven information.

Today, Proven Sires headquarters has moved and is now located in Hays, Kansas.

Why, you ask?

  • Closer to feed yards
  • Closer to slaughter houses
  • More centrally located
  • Lower input costs
  • Larger feed resources

The ownership has also changed, along with a few of the long-term goals. The data is very important, but stands second in line. The direction the PSS program will head toward is a balance of traits for more predictable profit from more angles and scenarios.

The line-up of PSS bulls are listed on the Web site. There are about 50% of the bulls already proven against the unproven bulls this year, and in the years to come. However, just because the unproven bulls do not have the progeny data to back them up yet, does not mean they are not better than the control bulls. The unproven bulls listed are bulls that were selected for a variety and balance of traits from predictable genetics. Many of the young bulls are as powerful as they get in the Angus breed when it comes to performance, phenotype, and marketability.

Proven Sires Services programs will continue to lead the way for Angus genetics into the demanding future for a total quality end product that will enhance a larger profit and higher accuracy for predictable genetics.
