Brookview Farm

Brookview Farm was established in the early 1900s by J.D. Gay and is currently owned by his granddaughters, Betsy Gay Van Nagell and Monnie Gay Lona, and their families. The farm includes 2,100 acres in Fayette and Clark counties and includes row-crop and tobacco production in addition to the cow herd.
Until 1991, Brookview Farm operated as a purebred Hereford farm. The introduction of Angus genetics has changed the face of the herd into one of the leading commercial operations in the country.
Ben Roberts manages the 500 Angus-Hereford-cross commercial cows at Brookview. He notes improved weaning weights, polled calves, increased female fertility and better udders as the major benefits Angus genetics brought to the herd.
The Select Synch estrous synchronization protocol and artificial insemination (AI) have played a key role in Brookview Farms genetic improvement. Roy Wallace of Select Sires, Plain City, Ohio, will give a presentation about how to use heat synchronization within herd-management schemes.
Brookview Farm is an active member of the Kentucky Cattlemens Association and of the National Cattlemens Beef Association.
